Bogeys Backyard Golfs Sim
Builder notes
I built my golf simulator because I wanted golf to be available on my terms. At first, it was pretty simple. I wanted to play more, practice more, and not have Connecticut winters decide when my golf season was over. I also wanted a way to work on my game without needing to block out four or five hours every time I wanted to play. But over time, it became a lot more than just hitting balls into a screen. I’ve always been someone who likes to tinker, test things, and figure out how everything works. The simulator became the perfect outlet for that. Launch monitors, mats, projectors, PCs, cameras, OBS, control systems, clubs, shafts, software you name it, I’ve probably tested it, changed it, upgraded it, or made a video about it. Then something else happened. It became social. What started as a place for me to play golf turned into Bogeys Backyard Golf. The leagues, tournaments, giveaways, SGT events, scrambles, YouTube videos, Discord community, and everything else really grew out of
I’d say my favorite component is the ProTee VX launch monitor. It is really the heart of the whole simulator and the piece everything else is built around. Ive spent a lot of time dialing it in, calibrating it, comparing its numbers, and building the room around getting the most out of it.
I’d say my biggest lesson learned is that a golf simulator is never really finished. You always find something you want to improve, upgrade, or change. I also learned that getting the basics right, especially room layout, hitting position, screen size, and equipment placement, matters more than chasing every new piece of technology.
If I could change one thing, I would have built the space bigger from the start. As the setup grew into content creation, product testing, and having more people involved, I quickly realized that extra room for seating, cameras, and equipment would have made everything easier.
